Aspen Engagement Shoot in Breckenridge
Sarah & Luke - Fall engagement shoot at Boreas Pass/Aspen Alley in Breckenridge, Colorado
Fall in the rocky mountains is always spectacular due to the golden glow of the aspen trees. The tricky part is timing. Most regions the leaves turn the same time every year, but there’s always a chance it could be early or late. The foliage is fleeting, only lasting about 1-2 weeks with peak colors only about a week. After 6 consecutive falls aspen chasing in Colorado, I’ve been able to compile a list of places where I know around when to expect the foliage.
Sarah & Luke wanted to do their photos in Breckenridge because they met there, and the most obvious choice was to go to Aspen Alley which is a gorgeous aspen grove on the bottom of Boreas Pass Rd. You can also keep driving up the pass for more foliage and trailheads. To avoid crowds, we opted to go on a weekday, as this pass gets a lot of tourists. We had a bit of rain we had to wait out in the car, but the overcast sky made the colors really pop!
One thing that made this shoot really special is that 5 years beforehand, I shot my first ever wedding in New Hampshire. Luke’s sister was the bride. It was a turning point in my career and I look back on that day fondly. I have come so far and learned so much since then. Doing Sarah & Luke’s engagement photos really got me to reflect on the past 5 years and made me feel really good about what I’m doing! I love the connections I make with my clients and their families.
