Maternity Session at Bishop Castle
Emily & Kevin - Bishop Castle in Rye, Colorado
I had never heard of Bishop Castle before Emily asked me if we could do her maternity photos there. When I looked it up, I was so excited to go. The photos online do not do it justice though! This castle is quite the spectacle. It is the labor of love of one man, Jim Bishop. He has been working on it since 1969. When I got there for the photo shoot, I just stared at it from the road for about 20 minutes. It’s wild that one person could build such a structure, and it is so beautiful.
When you go up the stairs in the front, you get to the main room with large windows and beautiful stained glass details. This space is available for events & weddings! From the main room you can go down to the bottom floor or up either of the two towers on the sides. You must use extreme caution when climbing up and down the stairs! The castle is a little rickety and the stairs are steep!
Exploring the castle was so much fun. I felt I could spent hours there. But beware- it is really dangerous and you have to be SUPER careful where you step and hold on. If you are afraid of heights, I do not recommend going up to the top!
